Sublingual Immunotherapy for airway allergies

Our Products
Allergen immunotherapy has been shown to be an effective treatment option for allergic rhinitis patients with persistent symptoms.1 The purpose of Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) is to modify the immunological response to the allergen through daily administration of the therapy.3,5 SLIT not only desensitises the patients, resulting in alleviated symptoms but may also result in long term clinical benefit that persists after discontinuation of treatment.2 ALK has a complete portfolio of SLIT tablets consisting of GRAZAX® (grass pollen allergy), ITULUZAX® (tree pollen allergy) and ACARIZAX®(house dust mite allergy).
ITULAZAX®, the first NICE recommended allergy immunotherapy tablet for moderate – to-severe tree pollen allergy10

ITULAZAX® is a standardized allergen extract of birch pollen in tablet form and targets the cause of tree pollen allergy. ITULAZAX® is indicated in adults and children (5 years or older) for the treatment of moderate-to-severe allergic rhinitis and/or conjunctivitis induced by pollen from the birch homologous group.3
ITULAZAX® is indicated in patients with a clinical history of symptoms despite use of symptom relieving medication and a positive test of sensitisation to a member of the birch homologous group (skin prick test and/or specific IgE).3
Members of the Birch homologous group:3
- Betula verrucosa (birch)
- Alnus glutinosa (alder)
- Corylus avellana (hazel)
- Carpinus betulus (hornbeam)
- Quercus alba (oak)
- Fagus sylvatica (beech)
To ensure that patients benefit from treatment with ITULAZAX® in the next tree pollen season, it is recommended to initiate treatment with ITULAZAX® at least 16 weeks before the tree pollen season starts.3
Patients taking ITULAZAX® can mainly expect mild to moderate local allergic reactions to occur within the first few days of treatment, which will resolve over time (in many cases within about two weeks).3
More information about ITULAZAX®, including SmPC, can be found on the ITULAZAX® page.
GRAZAX®, the first licenced grass pollen allergy immunotherapy tablet for allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis4
GRAZAX® is a disease-modifying treatment of grass pollen induced rhinitis and conjunctivitis in adults and children (5 years or older), with clinically relevant symptoms and diagnosed with a positive skin prick test and/or specific IgE test to grass pollen.
Although you can start GRAZAX® treatment at any time, to benefit from the next grass pollen season, treatment should be started at least 2-3 months before the grass pollen season starts.4

Patients taking GRAZAX® can expect mild to moderate local allergic reactions to occur during the treatment period.4
More information about GRAZAX®, including the SmPC can be found on the GRAZAX® page.
ACARIZAX®, the first NICE recommended allergy immunotherapy tablet for house dust mite allergic rhinitis9

ACARIZAX® is indicated in patients (5-65 years) diagnosed by clinical history and a positive test of house dust mite sensitisation (skin prick test and/or specific IgE) with persistent moderate to severe house dust mite allergic rhinitis despite use of symptom relieving medication.5 ACARIZAX® is indicated in adult patients with house dust mite allergic asthma not well controlled by inhaled corticosteroids and associated with mild to severe house dust mite allergic rhinitis. Patients’ asthma status should be carefully evaluated before the initiation of treatment (see section 4.3 of the SmPC).5
You can start with ACARIZAX® throughout the year. The clinical effect of a treatment occurs as early as 8-14 weeks after the start of treatment.5 Although symptoms may improve during treatment, a course of at least three years is typically required to achieve longer-term disease-modifying effects.5
Patients treated with ACARIZAX® can initially expect mild to moderate local allergic reactions that will diminish over time.7
More information about ACARIZAX®, including the SmPC, can be found on the ACARIZAX® page.
